2008 Schedule
6-10 October 2008 ·Fort Worth, Texas
Monday-Thursday from 9:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. and Friday from 9:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M.
The workshop includes participatory activities that teach and employ practical skills such as
- Interpreting handwriting (paleography)
- transcribing and abstracting records
- Citing sources
- Creating a research plan
- Using online and print finding aids (catalogs, NUCMC, Preliminary Inventories, Descriptive Pamphlets, etc.) to locate records
- Using online resources
These skills will be integrated with work in an array of record types, including but not limited to:
- Advanced Census Work
- Federal and local court records (criminal, bankruptcy, and others)
- Federal military records
- Federal Land records
- Mapping (Rectangular System & Topographic Maps)
- Records of the Five Tribes (Cherokee, Creek, Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Seminole)
The schedule is subject to minor adjustments in course content.
